Revolving Cake Stand
If you spend any time baking and love cakes, and who doesn't,
you probably would find a revolving cake stand a welcome addition to your kitchen. These tools not only lift the
cake above the work counter, they make it much easier to add the frosting and those special decorations. Most will
come apart for easy cleaning, so when you spill, it will not be a major concern. There are many different sizes and
elevations available to suit your needs. Whether you want it used mostly in the kitchen for preparation, or plan to
use it for serving, you will find a wide price range and a variety of features available.
One of the lower priced models is provided by Wilton Products,
a company based in Woodridge, Illinois and a leader in baking and candy making products for over 80 years. A unique
revolving stand is their "Trim-N-Turn Ultra Rotating Cake Stand" and is available for around $20. The cake base
measures 12" in diameter. The advantage to this stand is the ability to lock the turning plate so it can be used as
a serving stand. It has a non-slip base and because it uses ball-bearings for the rotating plate, it can be turned
with one hand while decorating. Another Wilton creation is the "Tilting Cake Turntable." This is all plastic with a
12" diameter plate with a non-skid surface sitting upon a 6" pedestal. The turntable has 3 settings to make the
decorating that much more accessible. It will lock flat, or set it for a 12 degree or 24 degree tilt to reach those
side areas of specialty cakes you might wish to create. You should be able to find this product for less than
$70.
Finally, if considering Wilton products you may find the
"Wilton Professional Turntable" a top choice. This has a 4 1/2" pedestal with a 12" diameter cake stand. They claim
this heavy aluminum stand will support a 16" cake, so it would make a very effective wedding cake pedestal, or for
working with a tiered cake. This is rated as a professional grade turntable and boasts easy turning, so if ever you
plan on working with heavier types of cakes, this may be the one you want to have at your
disposal.
Ateco has a selection of revolving stands that may be of
interest. If you wish for something a little sturdier, they have an all aluminum 4" stand with a 12" diameter that
uses ball-bearings to provide a smoother turning motion. Expect to pay between $50 - $80, depending on where you
find it. If you have a need for a rectangular rotating stand, they offer one made of long-lasting aluminum that
stands 5 inches with a top that is 12 x 16 inches. Expect to pay somewhere around $100 for this unusual
item.
A revolving cake stand can definitely make the preparation of
cakes and other desserts more convenient by lifting your creation off of the work area and give you full access to
it. You may also appreciate the serving capabilities when each slice can be cut off and the serving tray rotated
for the next guest. Finding a cover for your stand will also help keep your cake moist, and pest free, during your
event.
